Botox

Botox has a place in a dental practice: relaxing the muscles that clench and grind, and treating the lines that come with it.

Botox at the dentist

A muscle treatment, offered where the muscles are best understood

Botox temporarily relaxes a specific muscle. Cosmetically that softens the lines a muscle has been folding into the skin for years. Clinically it calms a muscle that is working harder than it should — which, in the jaw, is a dental problem before it is a cosmetic one.

We review your medical history before anything is injected, and we will tell you plainly if botox is not the right answer for what is bothering you.

Real results

Softer, not frozen

The goal is a rested face, not an expressionless one. The lines between the brows soften and the resting expression reads as calm rather than tense, while the rest of the face moves normally.

We dose conservatively on a first visit. It is easy to add a little more two weeks later; it is not possible to take any away.

What we treat

Two reasons patients ask for it

Botox relaxes a specific muscle for a few months. That is useful cosmetically, and it is useful clinically when a muscle is working harder than it should.

Frown & forehead lines

The lines between the brows deepen from decades of the same expression. Relaxing those muscles lets the skin settle, and over repeated treatments the crease at rest becomes shallower.

Clenching & jaw tension

Overactive masseter muscles cause morning headaches, a sore jaw and cracked teeth. Reducing that muscle activity relieves the symptoms while a night guard protects the enamel. The two work well together.

Gummy smile & lip lines

Small doses can soften a high lip line or the vertical lines above the lip. This is delicate work in a region dentists treat every day.

The appointment

Start to finish in one visit

Why here rather than a medspa: dentists inject in this region every day and know the anatomy of the face and jaw in detail. If you are already a patient, we know your bite and your clenching history too.

I

Assessment

We review your medical history and what is bothering you, watch how the muscles actually move, and say plainly whether botox is the right answer. Sometimes it is not.

II

Treatment

A few small injections with a fine needle. Most patients describe it as a brief pinch. The whole thing takes about ten minutes and there is no anesthetic and no downtime.

III

The first two weeks

Nothing happens immediately. The effect builds over three to seven days and is fully settled at two weeks, which is when we check the result and top up if anything needs balancing.

IV

Maintenance

Effects last roughly three to four months. Patients who treat consistently often find they need slightly less over time, because the muscle is no longer being trained by constant use.

FAQ

Botox questions, answered

Will I look frozen?

Not if it is dosed properly. We start conservatively and review at two weeks. The aim is that people notice you look rested, not that you have had something done.

Does it hurt?

A brief pinch with each injection. No anesthetic is needed and most patients are surprised how quick it is.

How long does it last?

Three to four months for most people. Jaw-clenching treatment often lasts a little longer because the masseter is a larger muscle.

Is there downtime?

No. You can go back to work straight away. We ask you to stay upright and avoid rubbing the area or heavy exercise for the rest of the day.

Why get it at a dental office?

Dentists work in the muscles of the face and jaw daily. For clenching in particular, the person treating the muscle is also the person who can see what it is doing to your teeth.

Can I have it with other treatment?

Yes. Botox is often combined with a night guard for clenching, or scheduled alongside whitening or veneers when the goal is cosmetic.
